The opening night of our annual Miroma Art Exhibition last Thursday was a resounding success. Woollahra Council Mayor, Cr Peter Cavanagh, officially launched the event, using the word ‘community’ to encapsulate the essence of Inala and the talented artists who showcased their diverse range of styles and techniques.

The focus of our exhibition this year is the way in which individual expression in all of its diversity, invites a sense of communal celebration and deeper connection with each other. Art has the power to invoke the unique language of every individual and also find the through line that exists in all of us as human beings.

This year’s exhibition comprises over 50 artworks, including some exciting new additions to the collection- digital print, sculpture, and textile works. A record number of 17 artworks were sold on the night, with sales continuing through exposure at the Gaden’s Café and through our Facebook posts. Our art educators were ‘over the moon’ with the feedback from this year’s artworks.

Keiran commented, “I’m elated that our artists are going from strength to strength and that every individual’s specific style really shone on the evening”.

Elizabeth, instigator of the textile art session, said “The participants could work continuously on a project and really see the developments of the artwork. Richard M loved it so much that each week he would ask to do ‘sewing’ or ‘needle’”.

Samia, sister of Richard M, added “It was a pleasure sharing such a beautiful and successful evening. Please convey thanks to Miroma staff for making us feel welcome and for the genuine interest, love and support towards Richard”.

Inala is very grateful to Woollahra Council for their ongoing support, particularly through the Community and Cultural Grants Program 2019-20. The grant has contributed to the framing of the artworks, enabling us to present them in a professional manner.

We would also like to thank a few wonderful people for their generous support; Jeremy, Shaun and the team from Gaden’s Café, Holdsworth Community for their continued incredible support (the catering was delicious, as usual!), Hannah from Eden Art Framing from Rose Bay, and Tim from Vaucluse Cellars.

Through Line will run from September 6-20th at Gaden’s Café, 334 Edgecliff Road, Woollahra. It’s open from 9am till 3pm weekdays. All proceeds from art sales go towards new materials for the art program at Miroma. While you’re there, treat yourself to a great a cup of coffee and a delicious muffin!
